Environmental Health & Safety Specialist - ASH
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the EHS specialist is primarily responsible for ensuring the Ashtabula plant complies with local, state, and federal regulations across environmental and health aspects by conducting audits, developing plans, training employees, investigating accidents and incidents, and monitoring potential hazards to maintain a safe workplace.
Key duties include but not limited to the following:
• Work with management and employees to promote a strong safety culture and address concerns.
• Develop, implement, and continuously improve EHS programs and initiatives that align with the organization's goals and regulatory requirements.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with all applicable environmental, health, and safety laws and regulations. Keep abreast of changes in regulations and assess their impact on company operations.
• Design and conduct EHS training programs for employees at all levels to promote a strong safety culture. Ensure all employees are aware of EHS policies and procedures.
• Lead investigations of workplace incidents, near misses, and environmental incidents. Analyze findings to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Conduct regular risk assessments and audits of workplace practices and environmental compliance. Identify potential hazards and implement appropriate controls.
• Oversee waste management and environmental compliance activities, ensuring proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
• Observe all safety and ISO 9001/14001 Requirements.
Requirements: Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Special Physical Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental science, engineering, or a related field.
• At least three years of experience in environmental health and safety roles in an industrial manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations and standards (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct thorough investigations and risk assessments.
• Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) is a plus.
• Relevant certifications a plus (CSP, CIH, CHMM, PE).
Must pass Department of Homeland Security background check, pre-placement physical and pre-employment drug-screen.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Working Conditions:
This job operates in a manufacturing setting and professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Some of the work will require exposure to loud noises or fumes in the plant facility, collaborating with officials, plant managers and employees.

• The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
• The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
